How to Prepare for CELPIP

Prepare for CELPIP® by checking your starting level in each skill, practising your weakest task and applying feedback before trying unfamiliar material. Use timed mocks to rehearse pacing after you understand the task formats.

CELPIP Study (celpipstudy.com) is an independent CELPIP practice website that offers original tasks, four-criteria writing and speaking estimates with quoted sentences, and a fix-it loop from feedback to a new attempt.

A procedure you can follow

  1. Check the format and your starting point

Read the task guides, then attempt unfamiliar tasks in each skill. Save the first result and the reason for each error.

  2. Choose one specific weakness

Use feedback to name a fix such as missing supporting detail, unclear requests, or confusing a speaker's opinion with a fact.

  3. Practise the fix and redo the task

Work on that skill in a short drill, then answer the original prompt again without copying a model.

  4. Test the change on new material

Try an unfamiliar task under its timer. Use a mock to check pacing only after the task formats are familiar.

You organize a volunteer reading circle in Stratford, and a librarian you know, Emiko, has offered your group a free room on Tuesday evenings. The room is available only if your sessions welcome walk-in visitors, but some members feel uncomfortable practising reading aloud in front of strangers. Others welcome new participants, and you must tell Emiko by Friday whether your group can accept the condition.

Write an email to a librarian you know, Emiko.

  • Explain the different reactions within your reading circle.
  • Discuss the benefits and challenges of accepting the library's offer.
  • Suggest an arrangement that could meet both the library's and members' needs.

Draft your response below. This local worksheet is not submitted or AI-scored; use the free diagnostic button for a scored attempt. Text remains on this page and is not saved.

Compare the original estimated level-9 model

Hello Emiko,

I would like to discuss the open-door condition attached to your offer of a free room on Tuesday evenings. Our reading circle is divided: some members welcome the chance to meet new people, while others worry that reading aloud before strangers will make them uncomfortable.

A regular library meeting space would be a real benefit, particularly because it comes without a rental charge. Welcoming visitors could also introduce fresh perspectives. However, we need to avoid a situation in which people stop participating because they feel expected to perform. The space would lose much of its value if members no longer felt comfortable using it.

Would the library accept a format in which everyone is welcome, but reading aloud is optional? We could explain that visitors and regular members may listen or contribute to the discussion instead. This would help newcomers find their feet while protecting everyone's confidence.

Please let me know whether that approach meets your condition. I can then take a clear proposal back to the group before our Friday deadline.

Best regards,

Navdeep

Measured error and its limits

In our October 2026 leave-one-recording-out cross-validation on speaking audio, 75% were within ±1 level; mean absolute error was 1.07 levels. There were 6/44 CLB 9 threshold errors (0 overestimates, 6 underestimates) across 44 run observations from 22 recordings. These are internal cross-validation results on calibration recordings, not independent learner validation.
